A Winner!

A big thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway for the craft book New Wings for Old Things.

The winner is Giddy Aunt Lola (aka Sharon) from A Saucy Stitch.  Her blog looks quite entertaining, so I'm going back later for a good read with a cup of tea.  I love how these things (giveaways, blogs, etc) connect people!

If you aren't a lucky winner, you can still get the book over at the Air Ambulance shopping page - it would of course make a really great Christmas gift (or you could buy a copy for yourself and make your own Christmas gifts using the fab ideas in the book!).

Craft Book Review and Giveaway: New Wings for Old Things

I'm quite excited about this book.  Not only is it a fabulous book filled with upcycled crafts and gorgeous projects, it's written by one of the Handmade Monday contributors, Eleanor Lucy Millinery AND it's been written with the aim of raising funds for a superb organisation - the Children's Air Ambulance.

The book is called New Wings for Old Things: Sew, Stick, Splatter and Salvage.  What a fabulous title!

True to its title, this book is full of projects which will inspire you to upcycle your unwanted and unloved items into something stylish and special.  It's not just inspiration - there are also step by step instructions to help you in case you get stuck.

I rather like this old picture frame converted into memo pockets.  It could hold your post in the hallway, your patterns next to your sewing machine or your small business receipts in your office.

This stag's head made from buttons is inspired!

And bunting from old maps or children's comics is such a fun and easy idea!  There are more than 20 projects to inspire you and they are all quick, easy to follow, cheap and fun to make, while creating something a little bit special.

But what's even more special is that this book has been written and published with the idea of raising funds for the Children's Air Ambulance.  I can't imagine how desperately helpless parents must feel when their child is ill enough to have to use an air ambulance - just thinking about it is a very sobering thought.  It shocked me to discover that this service receives no government funding whatsoever - it runs entirely on donations from the public.

So I think that makes your purchase of this gorgeous little book so very worthwhile, don't you?  I know there are many charities after your money and they are all worthwhile - but by purchasing this book you are getting something rather lovely back!

To buy your copy for only £5.99 (is that a good price, or what?  I've come across magazines more expensive than that!) go to directly to the Air Ambulance shopping page.  It would make a superb Christmas gift (or buy a copy for yourself and make your own Christmas gifts with the inspiration of the book!).

There's more information about the work of the Children's Air Ambulance here.

And to win a copy of the book, please leave a comment on this blog post - this giveaway is open to anyone, worldwide.  Please make sure I can contact you via your comment (if it leads me to your blog with an email address, that's perfect).

For an extra chance of winning, please share this giveaway on Facebook or Twitter - let me know in the comments that you shared it.  You can use the tag #newwings

I'll pick a winner on Tuesday 22nd October.

Win a Book: Rubbish Revamped

Today's giveaway prize will let you combine reading with crafting and upcycling - what's not to love?

Up for grabs today are three copies of Danielle Lowy's book which focuses on upcycled Festive Craft projects.  Many of these projects would be great throughout the year too...

Find out more about the book and workshops on the Rubbish Revamped website.

If you prefer your books sitting on a bookcase, you will be pleased to know you could win a "proper" copy of the book if you live in the UK.

If you don't live in the UK, all is not lost! There are also two PDF versions of the book to be given away, which can be sent anywhere worldwide.  You can download these to a PC and even print them out if that makes following the projects easier for you.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply leave a comment (saying whether you prefer a hard copy of the book or the e-book version).

If you missed the rest of this week's giveaways, you can see them all by scrolling down the posts on the home page.

Thank you to everyone who has entered, shared and enjoyed these giveaways.  And a very special big thank you to all the people and companies who have donated prizes.
