Handmade Monday 118

How can it be that time again already?  These weeks fly past far too quickly! Or is that just me?  Anyway, welcome to Handmade Monday.  Click the link for more info.

This week, I did finally get round to making up my design project for Sewing World magazine...

I love beach huts (you probably know that already) and I really enjoyed this project.

Understandably, magazines aren't keen on you showing a finished project on your blog before it appears in the magazine, but I am allowed to show you snippets...

And I think it's probably OK to tell you that it's a pair of placemats for picnics.  I think these could make picnics really special and memorable - and you'd have no excuses for forgetting to take the cutlery as there is a special place for it!

OK, I'm going to stop there as I may have said too much already...

What have you been making this week?

The blue and pink striped fabric is lovely, very clean and fresh looking. I have just clicked on Sewing world mag link - oh no - another one I want to read - I have just subscribed to Craftseller mag after reading about it here! I will have no time to make anything with all the lovely things to read! Do you get up very early Wendy to get all this done? I think not doing so may be my downfall..

Wendy - I store my fabric and wool in picnic hampers... so another way of carrying my cutlery to picnics would be really handy. I think I might have to start sorting out my stripey fabric in readiness! :)

Ah, now I *am* paranoid about starting work early! I usually make a start before breakfast while I'm still in my pyjamas! But I'm usually in bed early at night too. It's so hard to decide which magazines are worthy of your cash each month!!

Ros, that stripey fabric was from Hobbycraft. They had a whole set of stripey fat quarters and I just couldn't leave them there!! But really, any stripes would do!

These look ideal for picnics or alfresco meals. Great design as always.

Love the little design snippets you've posted. Looking forward to seeing the whole thing. I really like how you do your sewing. It looks like sketching but with fabric and thread :-)

Thanks Louise and Stephen. Stephen, that's exactly the effect I'm aiming for - glad you like it!

ooh this sounds like such a fun summer time project! I love the pastel stripy fabrics you've used for the beach huts and the spotty life ring is really cute!

p.s. time is definitely moving quicker than it used to... :)

Thanks for the seeky peek.I'm never sure how much to give away on my mag proects on my blog but I am very excited about the next Craftseller.
Love the fabrics you've used her and how your style shines through in your proects. You make me what to get my sewing machine out and have a play :)

A great idea and i might just have to get the pattern :) we have packed lunches out quite a bit and even tho we are not a plates and cutlery family when we're picnicking having something to rest our butties on other than a picnic table or bit of cling film would be a far better idea :)
